Parabola & Hyperbolic, Hyperbolic navigation system

Parabola
Set of all points in a plane which are equal distance away from a given point and given line.
Point – focus
Line – directrix

Hyperbola
Set of points in a plane which having constant difference in distance from two fixed points.
Fixed points – foci.
Line joining two foci – base line
Base line extended either side of the foci – base line extension
Equidistant line from two foci – center line

Hyperbolic navigation system
Loran-c works on a hyperbolic navigation system.
Hyperbola overprinted on the navigation chart.
So that a position line can be plotted on the chart.
By measuring the time difference between arrivals of two pulse signals from two sources give a position line.
The intersection point of these position lines is the ship position.
