Coefficient A:
Cause:
Induced by H Unsymmetrical, if vessel swing too quickly.
Compensation:
Can’t be corrected.


Coefficient B:
B = Bp + Bi
Cause:
Ship’s permanent component (P).
Induced by Z into VSI, F&A.
Compensation:
If +Bp, place parmanent red pole forward.
If -Bp, place parmanent red pole aft.
If -Bi, place flinder bar forward.
If +Bi, place flinder bar aft.
If superstructure abaft the compass, flinders bar on forward part. If superstructure forward of the compass, flinders bar on after part.


Coefficient C:
C = Cp + Ci
Cause:
Ships permanent component (Q).
Induced by Z into VSI, athwartship.
Compensation:
If +Cp, place parmanent red pole stbd.
If -Cp, place parmanent red pole port.
Ci can’t be corrected.


Coefficient D:
Cause:
Induced by H into HSI, F&A.
Induced by H into HSI, athwartship.
Compensation:
If +D, place quadrantal spheres athwartship.
If -D, place quadrantal spheres F&A.


Coefficient E:
Cause:
Induced by H Unsymmetrical distribution of HSI.
Compensation:
Place quadrantal spheres diagonally.


Coefficient J:
Heeling error Cause:
Ship’s permanent component (R).
Induced by Z into VSI, acting through the compass position.
Induced by Z into athwartship HSI, when vessel heels.
Compensation:
Vertical force instrument (VFI) when vessel upright.
